Week 5 - funky websites!

We checked out zimmertwins (http://www.zimmertwins.com/). This is a fun and engaging way of making a movie in Primary School. On the left is an example of one screen of a little movie I made in 5 minutes about a killer python. Very easy stuff!!

Next we turned to http://www.xtranormal.com/. this is a more advanced animated way to make movies. This is best for the teacher to make movies for this kids, rather than as software for them to make.

We then checked out http://www.sketchswap.com/. This is an entertaining albeit risky exercise, as you have no control over what picture is returned to you from the websites server. It works in the following way: You draw a pic and submit, then another one comes from the server. This is an example of the drawing given back to me:

www.abc.net.au/rollercoaster/rollermache was the next site. It shows examples of a whole range of animations techniques and styles, from drawings to claymation etc. This would be a great website to show the students what is out there in the hope that gives them creative inspiration. It shows behind the scenes stuff, storyboarding techniques, and all sorts of things that can inspire the students to produce creative works.

Next was http://www.reasonablyclever.com/. This is a website showing how to use leggo to make movies. Go to "classic kid safe mini mizer".
Here is an example:

Then came http://www.storygames.com/TeachmanPF/readwri.html . This is a way to make rebus's (stories that have pictures in place of some of the words). This is engaging. Do not use gif images. Do file-save as - webpage. Then any moving images will keep moving when posted. How to actually do a rebus is:

Get lots of pics, save in temp file. The pics can got from a gif search. Bring up word. Do story. Then insert pic from temp drive. Remember, to keep moving pic moving in word, save the final product (the word doc) as webpage in temp file. It will then keep moving. Here is an example from the website:

We then checked out http://www.catchmentdetox.net.au/. This is a game like 'simcity' that uses environmental, social, economic, maths, english.
Then, http://www.ziptales.com.au/. The school will have subsribed to this.
The last site we looked at was a very engaging movie maker called http://www.dfilm.com/. Check out the example below. Warning: the following contains language that may be offensive to some viewers....
